HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY POODY!!! :-)
And...HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL THE P.O.T.N. MOMS OUT THERE!!! We hope and pray that it was truly a blessing for you. :-) I simply cannot believe this is already our fifth Mother's Day. So many memories...so many emotions rush through me as I think back to all that we've been blessed to experience through the miracle of our children. Please take a walk down memory lane with me as I share an email letter we sent out five years ago today, on the experience that will now be forever known as our "First Mom's Day":
---------------------------------------------
Friends,
I hope you all don’t mind me sharing how sweet our Mom’s Day went.
As some of you know, this was my wife’s (Meredith) first Mom’s Day. Our sweet little Nicholas is almost three months old now and growing faster than we were ready for.
Well, after going to church yesterday morning, we spent the entire afternoon at my in-laws house whose air-conditioning had just broken down. So imagine: a hot day like yesterday, kids running around everywhere, and of course, the guys are working on each other’s cars trying to figure out problems before having to make the inevitable visit to the mechanic. This is all fine and good, except that we were publicly dedicating Nicholas to the Lord during the evening service. We were all dripping in sweat, Nicholas was completely off schedule with sleeping and eating, and we were rushing to get to church on time.
We did get there, just in time. On our way in, sweat everywhere, (I gave up on the tie!) Nicholas decides that Daddy’s shirt is too clean. Soooooo, he figured he’d have a blow-out. For those of you who don’t know or haven’t experienced a blow-out, it is quite funny-when your NOT the one holding the baby. Basically, he went poopy. Which is fine. BUT, you pay the price when you’re trying to save money and buy Wal-Mart brand diapers. They just won’t hold it. Get the picture?
So, now we have to change him! We hurry into the nursery, change his clothes, Daddy runs into the bathroom and realizes that his shirt is hopeless, but at least I can wipe the 10 pounds of sweat from my brow.
We go into the sanctuary, and all is well. This is his “fussy time” so we were a little worried but he was doing good. Then-FELLOWSHIP TIME! The organ started playing, everyone started talking, and Nicholas was startled so of course he started crying. We tried to calm him down, and it worked. Until we were at the front of the congregation with our Pastor holding him. Then he started again.
Now for story #2 (and the last)
On the way home, Nicholas was as happy as can be. He was cooing away, smiling at Mama, and just enjoying the trip. Because we weren’t home all day, we celebrated Mom’s day as a family at night. Nicholas and I each had a card for Meredith, (and of course he signed it-in his own special way) and we presented her with a Bible that she had been wanting for quite some time. It was a very special moment for us especially since we love Mama so much. As I was leaning forward to kiss her, breaking the silent sweetness of the moment, was the loudest burp we had ever heard from our lil’ guy. It was so funny all we could do was laugh and laugh as we both thought “welcome to parenthood”. It was quite the day. But we wouldn’t trade it for anything else.
Thank you for letting me take a few minutes of your day. I just had to share this story with you all. Hope you had a special Mother’s Day with your wives and/or Moms. They are precious family members that must be treasured.
Blessings
