I agree 100%.

I understand the photo sharing forums are for the sharing and critiquing of photos pertaining to that category but these are also our only outlet for getting our questions to our 'target audience.'

The above example is good, moving a question about the mt-24ex macro twin lite out of the macro forum to the lighting forum does nothing but move the question from the target audience to an audience that probably doesn't care or have the right answer.

Since macro is what I shoot it's really the only thing that I can comment on from experience but I'm sure the other forums such as sports, G&N etc have the same issue. There are techniques and questions that apply directly to these fields of photography, the best way to discuss them and get questions answered is to address them to photographers that shoot the same subjects.

Please let us post non-photo sharing questions/comments/techniques in our genre specific forums and not have them moved about.

Respectfully,
Kurt

http://photography-on-the.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=38 is photo sharing forum. Not for lens or technique discussions. Lenses go to http://photography-on-the.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=33 and technique talk usually to http://photography-on-the.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=13, Flashes are discussed in http://photography-on-the.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=35

If you want to make your post easily found by macro shooters, feel free to use something like:

Macro: 70-200 IS reversed?
Macro: Best flash under $200?

Hi Pekka,

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I understand completely what you're saying. It still would be nice for all the macro 'talk' to be consolidated to one area it would save searching through half a dozen or so forums to track it all down, the 'discussion' threads never use to get moved from the photo sharing forums and everything seemed to work fine.

Is there any chance we could get 'discussion' areas for the different genres of photography?

I don't want to out any threads but there are definitely threads in some of the photo sharing forums that are not about photo sharing at all that have been allowed to stay in those forums for months. Why do some get moved out and others are allowed to stay?

Thanks,
Kurt

Once upon a time, there was a Wedding forum here structured in the same manner. It became a "interesting" place and the bane of Pekka and the Mods.

I don't think POTN will want to go through that experience again.

Limited resources; there's only so many Admins/Mods and things get missed.

If you see a thread in the inappropriate section, click on the "Report" icon and the thread will be moved.
