buying a new photo camera - which model?

Hi everybody!
Given my beloved A70 was stolen yesterday at an airport I will take advantage of my upcoming trip to New York to buy a replacement one.
Have you got any recommendation for a good one in the range of 400 USD?
And the address of a shop with attractive prices in Manhattan?

You liked the A70, get an A95. It's the A80 upgrade.

B&H (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?). Never been there in person, so I don't know how they'll be (especially around this time of year) about letting you try out various models, though. I've used them for mail order enough though.

You might want to consider a Canon S1 IS. I have that as well as an A70. It isn't much bigger than an A70 and it has some extra nifty features that I love such as image stabilization so you can take a zoomed in photo without a tripod. This zoom is a 10x OPTICAL zoom that focuses much faster than the A70. I recently did a websearch for the best high zoom range cameras on the market and the S1 IS still comes out at or near the top, all things considered. I bought it last May for under $500 in the US so I think by now it must have come down a bit in price.

B&H is worth a visit. So is Adorama, which isn't too far away either. But remember that these stores are run by Jews, so they will be closed on Saturdays. Open on Sunday, though.

I can count on two hands the many times I've stood in front of B&H on a Saturday afternoon going "DOH"! :D
