Well I've had a 100mm macro for some time now. It's an old Tokina that you almost can't find any info on. However it seems to work reasonably well for my normal uses, I just haven't done much TRUE macro with it.

For fun though I've been leaving it on my camera lately. Last night an ant decided to crawl across the floor of my apartment, a pretty big one at that. I grabbed the camera and snapped a half dozen shots, but I had to stop (wife was insisting I kill it rather than get portraits :) ). When I brought them onto the PC I wasn't very impressed. Just not as sharp as I would have liked.

Today as I was walking into the apartment a spider was crawling across my front door. I think it's a Yellow Sac Spider (please correct me if I'm worng).

C&C welcome - I did very little PP on this. Center Crop, small sized, click the link to go to the full size (cropped) image.

Anyway, suffice to say I have a newfound respect for you macro shooters. I always new it was hard and took a lot of patience, but this was the closest I came to a "keeper" in about 12 shots. This was done with a Sigma EF 500 Super in the hotshoe, I would have rather done it with off-shoe but my cord is "in the mail" :)

About the size of a US nickel max. I don't know if that's big or small for these spiders. I see them this size all the time in and around our building.
