I have a Cobra head piece, but don't know which legs are good and safe for this heavy setting for a stationary sports photography?

The Gitzo 3 series tripods are pretty good.

don't really know what sports you are talking about, but I can tell you the use of a tripod for sports is a fairly rare thing. The great majority of time, big bodies and glass are used on a monopod.

true, unless you use a wimberly or equivalent (gimbal head) for big glass.

Ditto what JohnJ80 said. That looks like what I have!! It is a very well balanced setup and simple awesome for the combo you listed.

My thoughts too. I know of one guy who does with his 400 or 600, but it's on a monopod still. Very odd if you ask me. Generally there is no room for a set of legs in the photo areas/wells.

I actually have a Kirk King Cobra action head http://www.kirkphoto.com/cobra.html
I don't think it fits a monopad for its action;) Wow, a Gitzo 3540LS is pretty pricey, huh?
