Thanks cobra. It was a cross light setup. Main flash camera left about 45 degrees and fill flash on camera right. The main flash was on a stand and I had my son walking around holding the other flash.

making it great for 'artsy' rainbow shots, or a MUCH cheaper alternative to the 14mm L

for other examples, i've got a couple more full frame tokina shots up on flickr. (http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=tokina%20full%20frame&w=10383467%40N07)

unfortunately the borrowed 5dm2 i'm using has a totally non-functioning lens data connection--no AF, no aperture control, and lens FL info is missing--but you'll still get the idea.

Keep it. It's out of stock at B&H and Adorama, and the asking price at some other places is nearing $700.00 :o I am waiting for B&H to re-stock their shelves to buy one, since their price is a lot better.

Very sharp! Would a Hoya Pro 1 CPL create any problems with this lens? I can only assume that since Hoya and Tokina are related companies their filters would match their lenses.

You got it all wrong. This lens is quite popular; so much that B&H and Adorama are out of stock. While the asking price at B&H is around $599.00, some shops that still have this lens for Canon are asking from $649.00 to around $700.00. I am waiting for B&H to re-stock their shelves.

But the same lens for Nikon is available at B&H and other stores. However, most reviews of this lens compared to super-wide Canon and Nikon lenses put this one ahead, maybe because of great IQ at a cheaper price.

anyone know the infinity focus distance? I will be using the infinity focus at f5.6 mostly while shooting video.
What do you suggest? tokina or canon 10-22? well I might need the shortest infinity distance lens. Cant focus manually when flying with a stabilizer so a short infinity distance is essential

thanks for the input guys

all of these examples (possibly reposts) of bokeh/shallow DOF are @f/2.8 and very close to (if not right at) the MFD:

I use "Irfanview" for minor jpeg processing. It is free, and really simple to use. It is actually a file viewer that also allows simple processing.

I just adjusted the Gamma and contrast a little, and added a little sharpness.

I though she was your kid, and that's why I din't say much about her skin color nor anything else, but the first thing I noticed is that her skin color (or tan) is spot on. Great job.

Hopefully her mother got a copy of the photo, because it's a good one.

I got my Tokina 11-16 Friday and still playing around with it deciding if I should keep it or not... Excellent lens, but just trying to find out if the $275 upcharge is worth it over the 12-24 (or if the money will be better spend elsewhere on something else!).

IQ is about the same as the 12-24, that I have seen so far. My problem at this point, I think, is having to microadjust it... Not really the lens as much as my body, because almost every single lens I own front-focuses on my 7D. So I just have to find where it is good.

Some of my test shots at f/2.8 look alright, but microadjusted look incredible. So I want to dial that in tonight hopefully and find where it is sharpest. Once I dial it in at f/2.8, stopping down should just look killer. One thing I do like though, is bokeh at f/2.8... And yes, you CAN get a nice pleasing bokeh with this lens. Not like many other lenses, but enough to give a nice 3D effect from background (compared to other UWA I should say). Nothing like a 135L of course :P

I did appreciate the f/2.8 for video though. I did a test video at a buddies new apartment and that stop is a big deal, especially at ISO 3200/6400. So that is one good thing, for sure.

Kind of sucks, but at least it can be corrected!

300L is at +4, 135L at +9, and the 11-16 will probably need +5 to +10 somewhere... My 24-105 was at +9 on the telephoto end until I sent to Canon for adjustment and is now 0 at wide/tele (I explained where it was focusing on my 7D, so they may have adjusted based on my value sent to them). Not one lens has ever needed any negative (backfocus) adjustment.

Not a big deal, that is what microadjust is for. I just wish they had slightly tighter tolerances out of the factory for both lenses/bodies.

Invertalon

It is the method that best helps check focus using lens align (it really does help).

I did not emboss to check sharpness, only front/back focus.

Its an excellent lens, but does not warrant the upcharge on the 12-24 IMO. Because of that, I put in for a return RMA right now to return it :(

I lost my 12-24 a few weeks ago (long story), so I decided to buy the 11-16 because I can use a faster lens in low light indoors. However, for landscapes during the day the 12-24 is just fine, since apertures around f/11-16 I use the most. Although the narrower focal length works against the 11-16 when compared to the 12-24, I still like the wider aperture of the first. I should receive the 11-16 tomorrow, so maybe I should update my profile :)

While B&H asks $599.00 for the 11-16 (around $100.00 more than the 12-24), some other shops were asking from $649.00 to a little over $700.00 a week or two ago!

Microadjust isn't really for sharpness, more for front/back focus issues
(which in a way helps with sharpness, because something not focused properly won't be sharp, and something focused properly will be sharper)

Um... But you use the "sharpness" of the image to determine where the focus is (whether it's front/back focusing). So microadjusting is for sharpness as it is the desired result/effect that one is looking for during image output.
