So...my walkaround is the Canon 15-85mm. After looking through this entire thread and convincing myself daily, I purchased this lens a week ago. The next day, i started to wonder to myself, "Wait...is 11mm that much different than 15mm?" I suddenly started to feel those regretful feelings, possibly a "buyer's remorse" even before i had lens in hand.
Got it today. It's amazing how much more you capture at 11mm than 15mm. I am definitely glad I purchased this and look forward to my St. Maarten trip in a few days!

it helps to look at focal lengths in terms of ratios, not differences.
ie, a 1mm difference means nothing to a 200mm focal length, but a huge difference to a 10mm focal length! :)

Thanks for the welcome!... a couple more pics from my travels. A friend had the Canon 10-22mm on the same trip and I noticed that in some of his pics the focus softened as you moved away from the center quite noticeably. Happy with the Tokina, it's a solid lens.

its a tad overkill on a full frame body but its fun i always bring it with me maybe trade it for a 12-24 maybe may have to try the 12-24 out one day on the 5dmII

Thinking seriously about going with the Canon 10-22. I tend to use this lens a lot on vacation and the 16mm is more limiting than I thought it would be. I rented the 10-22 for a recent Disney trip and really liked it. The extra 6mm made a big difference in being able to get some "normal" perspective shots without changing lenses.
Usually I don't mind changing lenses often if needed, but when I'm on vacation it's nice to be able to get something scenic or a grab quick family shot on the fly.

First I have to say, this lens rocks for Lightning shots!
We got our first real rain in 7 months in Southern New Mexico last night and with it came a killer lightning storm. This was our first storm in our new house and WOW, what a perfect location to capture some lightning.
Here are a few of the 70+ shots we got with lightning in them.

Awesome!!! I just ordered one of these lenses to compliment my current set up ... 24mm on a crop is fine but every so often there isn't the option to move on me feet!! Very impressed with lots of the shots in this thread and the reviews of this lens are very favourable indeed.
Looking forward to having a play!

the actual focal length of the shot can be found in the description/caption field.

Is there really a need for 2.8 on a lens like this which, lets be honest, is a 95% landscape lens. So most of the time it will be stopped down to anywhere between f/8 - f/13?

Really? 95%?
How about all the people who have bought it for use indoors where flash is not permitted - churches, museums, etc. It's used for that purpose by 87.2659722% of people (hey, if you're going to invent a statistic you may as well invent an unbelievable precise one).

my most interesting shots on flickr with this lens (http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=tokina&w=10383467%40N07&s=int) disagree with your analysis.
