Richard:
Here's a challenge:
Try not to open the box for 48 hours after it arrives.
Congratulations. I'm waiting for my cigar.

Here's a realistic challenege: Try to go 5 minutes.
Of course, you probably already blew both challeneges by downloading the manual already.
You did download the manual, right?

Yep - even 5 minutes is a challenge. I couldn't wait 5 minutes for a second-hand flash. And I already have a flash.

Actually, the REAL challenge is to OPEN the box and take out the instruction manual along with everything else BUT the camera (leave the camera in the box). Then open the manual to the page with the box content listing and take an inventory of the items in the box. Next, with the camera still sitting pretty in the box, assemble the charger and the battery and charge the battery. Then go watch the telly while the battery is charging and the camera is safe and sound in the box.
:D :D :D

From my personal experience, regardless of the product, the instruction manual is the last thing that gets my attention.

I'd read the manual twice before my 20D finally arrived... I was getting frustrated when I couldn't find a 580EX manual online, though. I had to wait until that actually arrived to read up on it. :)

OMG!!! The Manual!!!
I have sinned as I have only just this minute downloaded it.
I promise to read it twice as much to make up for this mortal EOS sin

In my case with my new toy, I made it until the camera was the second to last thing in the box. I actually pulled out the battery and charger and started charging it. Then I pulled out the camera. And I actually read some of the manual before using the camera.

Now before you come to the conclusion that I must be very very patient, I should point out that the camera was under all that other stuff so I had to get everythng else out of the box first and I had to read the manual to figure out how to connect the DC coupler into the battery slot. I was not taking any chances on me messing something up. After taking a couple of shots then I had to read the manual again, at least enough to figure out where all the buttons went. Sure I would have eventually figured it out without the manual, but I am very impatient and knew where to find the information I needed NOW.

Well of course! First you have to see if you can figure it out on your own. Then you use the manual to see how right you were. :D

Now that is exactly what I said in order to achieve a dissaproving look from my fiancee the other day (when setting the new dishwasher up).
Incedentally the instructions confirmed I was right all along :D
