Challenge #171-Getting Around

I really enjoyed each and every shot submitted, and have agonized all week over trying to " be the judge ", but here goes. Time has been in very short supply, and today is no better, so I apologize to all but am going to have to be brief in my comments.

First Place: Cashmonee-"Great Gas Mileage" If it is possible to take a glamor shot of a pair of shoes...you nailed it beautifully! Well Done!

Second Place: Boutty-"She'll be Coming Around The Mountain" My first impression was that the train was too small in relation to the entire picture, but each time I looked at it, my eyes were drawn immediately to the train, and as a whole, I really loved the composition of the whole picture. Beautiful!

Third Place: Kevan G9-"My Moo..ving Experience.." I really liked this one because again, my eyes were immediately drawn to the bike even though it was not a huge part of the picture. It was almost like an object that really didn't belong in that picture, but fit it beautifully anyway. It just evoked the image of a leisurely Sunday ride in the country. I loved it!

This is a chance to take a glamor, or cover shot of your favorite mode of transportation, whatever it may be. Show off how you like to "Get Around".

Talk about your "Good Timing!":

So last Tuesday I took off from work to help my wife out on some chores, but before we got going on those, a quick ride ride around the block, as I call it. Beautiful day, perfect for a ride and, heck, bringing along the trusty G9. Left the carbon fiber steed behind and took the country bike instead. Slower, this bike is perfect for "Smelling the Flowers" type of riding.

http://www.serotta.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=44093&stc=1

So I do my loop, take some pictures, and come home to down load them and discover this challenge's topic. It was a no-brainer.

Congrats to the other winners! Terrific photos all!

Congratulations to the winners! Good topic and a tough one for the judge since there were many good ones, all very different. My personal favourites were Marie's creative (as usual) shot and Andrewaaa5's lone skier.

That was a great theme. All of the pictures were fantastic. I really liked sonicblue's train picture. The sun makes that picture! Excellent job!

tx cashmonee, appreciate your comment. Really goes to show the quality of the G9 as the only pp i had done was slightly warming up the temperature of the original photo.

:)

Congratulations to the #1 winner Cashmonee

its like a clip art sneaker

and congratulations to the runners up Boutty and Kevan

everyone's shot was a real delight to see

thank you Michael for hosting and running the challenge
I feel for anyone with the task of having to choose a winner

I had a shot of my feet which I nearly posted lol (as I do a lot of walking) but they were in sandles
was not mad about the shot of my bike
(and knew taking another would be worse again)

then decided.......
as I use the train and 'quick rail system' a lot, that was the 'way to go'
lol
then I saw Sonicsblue lovely shot and I was in two minds
(a good way to be as one mind is already worn)
lol

I intended putting this balloon one on then
but, decided..... 'no way' would anyone think that was the transport I most used

http://www.pbase.com/image/97366076/original.jpg

I was going to give it the title 'send me to the moon and let me play among the stars '
but thinking again , decided no way would anyone believe that thing gets to the moon
then I was going to name it 'up, up and away'
but decided 'no way' was that the 'way to go' .........
as my feet are firmly on the ground (most days)

:lol::lol:

great shots all. really enjoyable
many thanks Teekay ....
poor granny in the boot. she was great to do that
(for love)
she deserves a medal
lol

welcome to the forum and challenge Sonicblue and Recon
beautiful shots

Marie,

We should of switched photos; everyone knows I'm full of hot air so they would have believed me and that balloon.

I enjoyed your entry as well. I always do.

Nice series and hats off to 'Cashmonee'. There were plenty of shots I could have chosen, but to be honest skiing (or rather 'snowboarding') is definitely my favourite, even though it is entirely unsuitable for my daily commute to the office in Denmark (<<one of the flattest country in the world)

Thanks, Marie! I hope I didn't muck it up too badly! I really loved your shot of the train...and thought it was your reflection in the front of another train until I looked more closely, and realized it was an add! Your pictures are always an inspiration in creativity!

Congratulations to the winners, Cashmonee, Boutty, Kevan_G9 and to Michael Wells for hosting and judging a nice challenge.

I planned to shoot a paraglider on Saturday but it was not possible so here I am without my ‘ticket’ for complete enjoyment of this challenge. Nevertheless, I liked every picture posted.

Leaving the work of comparing every picture against the others to the judge, I was caught by the wooden bridge and the train of Boutty, The snow of andrewaaa5, the beautiful gray tram of marie and laughed aloud with the uncomfortable transport of teekay.

Thanks to all for sharing.

Well done everyone! Ditto above comments; all of the entries were winners in their own right IMHO! ;)

Congratulations to the winner Cashmonee's image - great thought must have gone into making this shot. Have you consider monochrome conversion for this image? And to my co-runner up Kevan_G - I could almost smell the fresh air from here - Got to love the countryside.

Thank you Michael Wells for hosting and interesting theme and the placing.

Also thanks sir rafael's kind remark about my image. I had to up my ISO setting to ensure I could take a reasonably sharp shot of the Puffing Billy (http://www.visitvictoria.com/displayobject.cfm/objectid.000A8DEF-75FD-1D33-B49380C476A90000/) as it puffed around the corner of the mountain range. It was one of the best 25-kilometres railway in Australia I think. :p

Hmmmm - the disappearing car trick!!

Thanks for the comment on my truck & trailer. I spent the night there where you see it - in the middle of the Canadian Rockies in late February. Temperature was in the high teens Fht. Brrrrr - a tad chilly!! My furnace ran almost full blast all night to try to keep me warm.

Sorry about that, but I normally remove pix soon after contests are over since I store them on my web site which has limited space and I like to keep it tidied up.

However, in view of the incredible interest in my totally unrecognizable and blurred reflection I have resurrected it here (temporarily, of course!) for the edification of you reflection fetishists ;)

must be very interesting getting around like it
worth the freeze
(?) so long as the air vents worked:eek:

Traveling with an RV is a whole separate lifestyle in itself.

I could have flown and taken a hotel and rented a car, but it's a whole different thing wandering by myself through the Rocky Mountains at my own pace.

I chose that picture for "my ride" because I put thousands of miles a year on that rig. If I see something I like, I stop and observe, enjoy and take pictures if I want. Sometimes I will just sit in a roadside pullout and just look at the beauty of this world we live in. Mountains, rivers, trees, wild animals, and most of all, serenity from the big city where I live.

I could easily fill this thread up with pictures of my travels.

Sure, it was rather cold that night, RV's are rather poorly insulated and my travel trailer is no exception. But I woke up refreshed, even though it was 3:15 AM when I stopped for the night.

It's a lot of fun - I enjoy it immensely.

I looked at that for a long time, and wondered if there was a story to go with it! The Canadian Rockies, and Alaska are both places I've wanted to get to for a long time, and haven't made it yet. Please feel free to share your pics...I for one would love to see them!

thanks very much Bob
for what its worth ( re my opinion that is ) the trips sound very wonderful
its a great thing to do

the reason I mentioned the air vents as you said about how much heat you had to keep on while you slept, wondering could it be dangerous in the small space . I also wondered were there bears around (just wondered)
& would you hear strange noises in the night

you must see some spectacular sunsets and sunrises as well as the beautiful scenery . its another world
