just got my new HP pavillion and put in my compact flash card in the built in card reader and started to transfer them to desktop and it doesnt do anything.. whats up am I missing something besides vista sucks a bit? what should I do? I havent put cs3 on the new pc yet or any canon software for that matter.... You would think I could drag the folder with my images onto the hard drive right?

I've never had a PC with a built in CF slot, but it seems it should work just as you described. Do you have any other types of cards you could try in the slots, I wouldn't think that the slot would be bad but you never know.

Well that's what I do on my Vista (32) machine. I wonder if there is a problem with the CF reader... any chance you can try an SD or other card?

Not a Vista problem. I've performed the task on 32 & 64 versions many times. First things first...check the drivers for your device. Second, run all the Microsoft updates. If it's a built in multi-card reader, then chances are, when you open Explorer, you'll likely have about 3-4 drives listed. One of those should have your card. If it's not there, try a portable USB card reader. If you don't have one handy, then they are fairly cheap and stocked just about everywhere. Without looking at the system in person, it'd be a bit difficult to troubleshoot.

Yeah...You should be able to.
I loaded the Canon software before I ever tried this. Try that first. Then check Canon site for your camera, look for RAW codec for Vista.
Congrats on your new machine..... Wait till the first time you load up Photoshop!
