If and when Canon decide to replace the Digital Rebel (300D), is there any particular time of the year that Canon releases new models?

My guess...a few days before Photo Marketing Association (PMA) 2005 convention from February 20-23.

You'll see rumors being posted on this forum and else where on the Net in and around the second week of February. You'll see speculation go wild. You will see a "leaked" picture by Feb. 11th. You'll see a formal announcement by Canon by February 17th or 18th. You'll have the new model available online by middle of March or maybe a bit later.

Is that about right guys?

That scenario sounds about right...

You forgot to add that they will be on back order and unobtainable for love or money for a further 4 months but supplies will become "normal" by about September.

In the interim, the few lucky people who managed to get one (presumably because they sleep with senior Canon management) will be on here constantly posting threads about how it "outperforms the 20D" and "with a decent following wind even the 1Ds MarkII".

There will also be a "major lock-up"/"back focus"/"doesn't make the coffee quite right" problem thread posted every day (which the forum will go into denial about - "'cos Canon cameras never have problems, do they? and even if they did... it would be much worse if you had a Nik*n" ) which will get blown out of all proportion. Canon will fix it fairly rapidly with a firmware update.

:p :p :p ;)
