Back off the "artsy" stuff a bit and they might not be so bad.

Would you elaborate on that? What can I do for a better composition?

Nice looking car but not a great place to take photos.
Try taking a step back and let the cars lines to the work rather than getting fancy angles. :)

what's with the pokka dots on the car in #1? (I know it's reflection off the ceiling lights, but it completely ruins the picture IMO)

light bulbs up on the ceiling. Nothing I could do about them.

The whole JDM style of shooting is a bunch of nothing as far as I'm concerned. It came from highlighting details about cars. And it has been bastardized into a "style".
Nothing personal but Ill use your shots since they are in this thread and everyone can see what I refer to.
Pic 1. What is she subject here? the reflections? To show how flat the trunk is? take a step or too back so the distortion is not so bad. Close down the aperture so the ceiling falls OOF. Then try to highlight the car in some way.
Pic 2. Im guessing the subject here is the dealer tag. Again move back and show the lines that are in the car. Let the car do the talking. Rather than your shooting.
Pic 3. My first thought was that this was an accident. I don't even know how to fix it.
Pic 4. Kinda nice but the distortion kills it again. And why is the hood open if you are not going to show what is in it. Shoot it high enuf to see the motor. You dont have to see all of it. But if the hood is open people will want to see whats inside.
Pic 5. Again not sure what the subject is. There is to much car for it to be the wheel. and to much wheel to be the rocker panel. It looks like the plane of focus is about the front edge of the door. IF it is the wheel, then shoot the wheel.
Given the limits of the car being on the showroom floor are forgiven.
Detail shooting can be great. But it is never done with so much WA distortion. Look in this months Digital Camera World Magazine. They happen to cover it this month.
With all this harping on you, a cant say it was that bad. But I think you just got away with trying to make overly styled shots. There is a line (and it is different for everybody) But when you cross it, The viewrs lose interest.
I can go on, but its 1:30am.... Im going to bed.

Beat me to it, worst choice of wheel ever for that car, well any car at that.
I'm figuring your space was limited and they prob wouldnt put the hood down for you. I like the second photo, wide angle looks good.

The only idea behind these shots was to show the wide angle -the distortion. Forget the subject; that wasn't my interest. I just happened to be at this dealership having my car serviced, and had my camera with me. So, I simply started shooting.
And given the limited space to work, and the fact they weren't going to move the car for me, or make any other arrangements for that matter, there wasn't much flexibility to what I could do.
Having said that, all the points made in this thread are well-taken. I appreciate all comments and a different point of view.

If the subject in the pictures is not the subject. You should say so in the OP.

Then what should I have said my subject was, distortion? I respect your opinions; I was trying to convey something else. No big deal.

it doesnt matter if the car has crap wheels, we shouldnt be judging that here, we should judge his photos.
I think you have some nice ideas but they just didnt pull off

I admit. I also admit I have a lot to learn, which is why I appreciate any cc or recommendations I get here.

I don't want to seem like I'm unloading on you. That is not my intent at all! So dont take it personally by any means.
Yes tell us you are playing with the distortion to see what it does. We would have never brought up things like the lights in the reflections. etc...etc. If in fact that was what you were doing we could have thrown in a tip or two on the purpose of the post. But if you just throw some pics up we will assume they are your finished product, and will comment on them accordingly.
But in this case I think you learned far more then what a WA lens does.
