I just did my first photo book this past week. I'm quite pleased with the results, but have a few questions for anyone else who has ever done this.

I used MyPublisher.com to layout and do the book. Their software was great once I got the hang of it, and I'm very pleased with the results. My only issue is they print at 180 dpi. This is fine for Christmas gifts, but for my stuff that I'd like to preserve and show to folks I'd like something that can produce a sharper image.

So, does anyone know if there are any photo book printers who have a process that exceeds 180dpi? Have you used their service? How do you lay out the book, software or web based?

Thanks

I was just looking at this mypublisher book. I didn't realize it was only 180dpi, the prices seem pretty reasonable though. They also only allow jpeg don't they? I'll probably still try them out, sounds like a really cool thing to be able to do. What size book did you get? I would think 12x16 size page would be pretty cool....maybe I'd photoshop and put some pics together.

Hi Todd,

I got their regular size book. Overall I am very very happy. The binding is nice, the printing is great. The software to lay the book out works very well. I wouldn't even bother messing with compositing things in PS. Just load up the photos and use their templates. The only exception to that would be if you want to do a pano, cropped top and bottom, in that case do the crop then fill it back out with Image -> Canvas Size to be the same size as your other images.
