I think the 1st one is excellent. No complaints. The 2nd one the WB does seem off a bit, and the edge of the table is showing in upper right corner, and I always gravitate there.

This is just my opinion as always, but in the first shot there's something about the shape of the glass that I find distracting. It looks like the food is in something like an over-sized martini glass and with the bottom of the glass cut off...well...to me it kind of looks like the food is being funneled out the bottom of the picture. I think the color and the lighting are good, but the shape there is throwing me off.
I agree with angry dad on the second shot in that I would have gone for a shallower DOF or recomposed the shot a bit so the edge of the table in the upper right corner didn't pull the eye away from the food. The colors look pretty good to me (maybe a tad hot on the yellows but not bad), but yea, the edge of the table is distracting.
Again, just my $.02 worth,
Peace,
Jim

the lighting is a bit flat.. i like directional lighting on food.. but you are doing better than a lot of other people

I like the second shot of the first shot you posted there...err...with a longer shot of the martini glass. I do agree that I think the lighting is a bit off, but to me it looks more like the levels are just a bit off...just as tad dark. Over-all though I think the composition is much better.
Peace,
Jim
