hi, im still getting to grips with my camera (slow learner i know:oops:) and i bought photoshop elements, this is my first attempt, i know its not great and i made a bit of a mess with the trees (using a laptop with crazy mouse pad!) and the sky could be better, thought id see what you guys thought:)

looks like you used the lasso tool to replace the sky vs changing the color which also led to missing spots under the roof rack and left very jagged tree lines. very unnatural cloning in the grass, but keep at it and try different approaches.

i used the healing brush, but i kept going too far, hence the tree mess, and the same with the sky, i need more practice methinks, lots!!

I like it. (Or maybe it's just her red hair?) made a bit of a mess with the trees Just select them & blur them a bit.

I'm not all that great with PS either. I think the origonal is nice. (given the background)

Now I know how to make my car look good Frank. Can't have enough of them in a shot IMO! :D

One thing I just noticed about the sky: A normal sky, will have some shading, not all one tone. I'd replace it with a lt blue to darker blue gradient.

Not bad for your first attempt. :) BTW, I'm guessing by your user name you also own a Westfalia Vanagon? ;)

cheers for the input guys, all the shots i put in previous to this thread have been straight from the camera, im slowly getting there with the different settings on that, i saw on another thread where the poster was advised to remove powerlines from a shot, so this urged me to get photoshop (elements) and have a bash, i can see it can make the pic much better colour wise etc, just having the skill to do it:lol:

as my username, when i first started joining forums i had a 1977 westfalia bay and just found it easier to stick with the same name, ive had a 1988 westfalia T3 (or T25 or vanagon depending where you live!!) a 1991 vw multivan, and now have a 1988 Karmann Cheetah (based on the vanagon) that looks like this.... oh and the bug of course, and a crappy saxo for work:)

Cool bananas Westy. I picked up on the user name mostly because I have been looking at Westys while thinking that having one might work well for a cross country photo safari some day. ;) and now have a 1988 Karmann Cheetah (based on the vanagon) that looks like this.... That's interesting. It looks like what we (in the US) would call a class C camper or motorhome, only I have never before seen one based on a VW van chassis.
Thanks for posting. :)
BTW, I have no idea what a Saxo is.

ok, id say you would be better with the 1980-90 version (easier to live with like a modern car) than the 1970`s versions (unless your really into your vw`s and want a bay, im not sure what you will know the different models as, basically they are all type 2`s split is a T1, bay = T2, vanagon = T3, then the T4 and the newest is the T5, main difference between the bay and vanagon is bay is aircooled and vanagon is water cooled, this is a pic of when i had my californian bay and a vanagon imported from germany, it had a turbo setup put in it so would wipe the floor with a golf gti and would get up to 120mph, which was fun:D

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a301/westy77/100_1066.jpg

the camper i have now they only sold in europe, they made 113 cheetahs and 740ish gypsies (basically both were the same) they made 9 right hand drive ones to try out in the uk but they were priced the equivalent of a small house so didnt sell well here, i know of one that has been exported to the usa so your not going to see one over there, they mainly came with the golf 1.6 td engine so slow as hell, but with a bit of spannering a subaru could donate its engine for a few more ponies:)

i know im babbling but this is the last bit....promise, right this is a saxo, made by citreon, its a tinny little thing with a 1.1 litre engine, but will get to 90mph and does 420 miles on a full tank, with our gas prices the equivalent of about $8-9 a gallon thats why i suffer the embaresment of owning it:lol:

Thanks for the info and photos Westy77. I sent you a link to a video you will probably enjoy about a special little Vanagon. The part towards the end when he got next to the Subaru WRX on the freeway was quite funny. ;)

Westy77,

Thanks for the picture of your beetle. I posted it on my website forum and several folks commented on how much they like it. Congratulations on the purchase of PS Elements and I hope you teach us all the cool tricks you are learning.

I am a pretty big VW enthusiast myself. They are unique cars and typically make for great photographs as a result. Here are some pictures of my buses. I'm not a great photographer so sorry about the quality. Since this photo was taken I sold the 1963 Caravelle Camper to a gentleman in London and I traded the 1964 Double Cab truck for a Karmann Ghia convertible located in San Diego, California.

Check out this thread to read the comments about your photograph, remember that these replies are not from photographers, but from car enthusiasts:

it is 100% solid, went through a year long resto, but keeping its aged look, this was a year after completeion where i wasnt happy with the paint on the underside of the body so was re-done (not by me btw)

and this is outside the vw factory at Wolfsburg, Germany, we went on a road trip to a show called Bad Camberg, its held every four years for vintage vw`s, pre 55 buses and 57 bugs, so mine was to new as its a 59 to get in, but the town was crammed with old vw`s so made it a really cool experience, only doing 60mph on the autobahns with people hurtling past at 100+ was a bit hairy mind!!

Bad Camberg is an awesome show! Too bad it isn't more affordable for those of us across the big pond!

Nice bug. I love the patina!

cheers, yeah it was a trip to remember, theres another show in germany next year id like to go to, money permiting.

lol, yeah a bigger lump in the back would be nice, i thought about a 1600cc, but it would need changing from 6v to 12v, and would have to modyfy the engine bay to get the engine in, so ive decided to stick with the 1192 30 horser, its cool having its origonal era running gear, just painfully slow at top end, like a bullet from the lights though:lol:
