View Full Version : Time error?

What am I doing wrong? I have carefully set up my profile to exhibit GMT time,(+DST) i.e., to be same as Greenwich, London.
My computer time is also GMT (also with DST). However, when my real time is 18:55 the forum states my GMT time as 05:55. Where is this 13 hour error coming from?

Good catch. My PDT time was an hour off. I had to change mine to GMT-7 and I am always GMT-8. We'll get it fixed.

I did one change is time setup. The server is in Central US time by default (that is where it is located and it has the clock set to local time).
Now, when you set your User CP to
GMT Western Europe Time, London, Lisbon, Casablanca
DST corrections always on
you should get the London time (compare to http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=136 )
I think you'll need to leave DST off if you are in US.
Does the above work for you?

Has changed now to one hour early. i.e., GMT = 13:54 Displayed Forum time = 12:54.
Selection of DST seems to have no effect.
One hour out will not keep me awake!!
PS. Just let me add my thanks for your work in this forum which is surely the best!

What timezone you have selected in User CP? Did you do the "London test" above?

Timezone was selected to London etc., however I did not select 'DST always on' - it did not seem logical.
With selection of 'DST always on' - all is now correct and the 13 hour error corrected. I can now relax. Thanks once again

Us time notation v.s European time notation.
The time setting does not affect time or sorting of messages. It is a dispay filter to let you see your local time. So if it is wrong, set it up in User CP so that you see it right. Do not look at names in the settings, when you see the correct local time on bottom of the page then those settings are correct.

In my User Control Panel, the Time Zone settings cannot be changed. Therefore, it is wrong.
The time displayed is also wrong, probably as a result.

So, if you enter User CP and Edit Options you can not click those tickboxes or open dropdown menus? Do you see any error messages? What browser are you using and is Javascript on?
There is a "Save Changes" button in bottom which needs to be pressed, too.
If you can't do the above changes I can make them for you, just PM me all the changes you want to be done.

Tickboxes do not tick. No messages.
My browser is within CompuServe, and there is no requirement for Javascript.

The posted GMT time is still one hour incorrect.
I guess that must be difficult.

Do I detect a hint of anger there?
I changed it now to what you requested in your PM. Better? Worse?
As I said the time setting is only a "display filter" so it would be great if you in case my help did not help could use IE or Firefox (any major browser) and set the settings - I can not see your browser page from here so this is wild guesswork at best.

No. No anger here. If I were trying to write the code, then I might be frustrated, but I don't write code.
The time displayed is correct for me now. However it shows me at GMT-7, but I am at GMT-8, so I don't understand how the time display is correct. I think it is perfectly close enough for government work, so I will shut up now.
