I have tried using the HOYA Infrared Filter R72 with my G2, and the performance is quite unsatisfactory. The colours are far too saturated in reddish shade, the exposure has to be set up to 13- 15 secs on an average in the brightest sunny conditions (12:00 pm to 01:00 pm ), the aperture has to be forced to F/4.0 to F/3.2 in landscape shoots to avoid the underexposure, and to add to the trouble there is (occasional) bright flare in the centre of the picture ( only for shots at certain angles) .

Though the trees and leaves are appearing as expected the rest of the pics is too saturated and makes the picture very distasteful.
When coupled with a Wide angle lens, I can see the curved dark edges of the filter in the image.
Apparently I tried the infrared filter after looking at some samples from G1 galleries :(

As you have noticed, the G1 is much more sensitive to the infrared spectrum. I believe Canon added a "hot mirror" to the G2 which was intended to elimate some of the G1's chromatic abnormalities, but this also made the G2 less sensitive to IR. However, if you search this site, you will find at least one thread in which someone documents successful IR shooting with the G2. All hope is not lost. :)

Best of luck,
