I have searched the used guide and there does not appear to a reference to this but thought I would ask here.

Is there any way to get the camera to save a RAW and large JPG to the two cards at the same time (efectively giving onboard backup) ie RAW --> CF JPG --> SD??

Alternatively is it possible to selectively move all the JPG files from the CF card to the SD card effectively backing up the cards prior to removing the CF card??

Cheers,

Andy

The answer is NO to both questions. However, you can use the SD card as a backup to the CF card (or vice versa if you look at it from a different perpective) with both cards hold the same image files. The number of images that each card will hold is determined by whichever one is the smaller (in bytes, not physical size) of the two.

It really seems Canon missed a good feature here with SD media being of lower capacity the ability to save different formats (JPG to SD) to each card would be really useful feature.

Perhaps a possible feature of the ID Mk III !!! or we could hope for inclusion in a future firmware upgrade !!

I'm just glad that the 1D2 does allow for 2 memory cards. I can keep one in the camera all the time as a spare in case I run out of CF cards or forget to bring them along as I have done once or twice before. Another plus is that it's faster to switch cards than it is to physically swap out a card and put another one in.

If you have images going to two cards at the same time, when either fills up, you'll have twice as many cards to fiddle with. And heaven knows how many times even fiddling with one was cause for missed shots!

I agree it wouldn't be bad idea sometimes, but at least for me personally it's more important that I can even have second card there. Somehow I don't really like SD cards, but just to keep it in camera in case if I would really need it makes me feel a bit better :) And I guess your idea is not so important to me, has something to do, with me shoting only in jpeg and not in raw. :)
