I'm new to digital photography and I was wondering what a good memory card is for my D30. Also, I used to shoot with Nikon so I don't have a lens right now for my camera, my friend is letting me borrow his 28-70 cheap Canon lens until I can get my own. Does anybody have any suggestions for a lens to shoot skateboarding with?
Thanks,
Collin

Get one or two standard sandisk 512s(blue n' red ones).
I am not particularly sure about skateboarding, but I would assume it would need to be fast and relatively long. If you are on a tight budget, look at some of the aftermarket brands, Sigma, Tokina or Tamron. They all have a couple very good quality lenses at considerably lower prices. Sigma has a 70-200 F2.8 which is priced about the same as Canons F/4. Unfortunately most sports require a fast and long lens, which translates to somewhat of a lot of money.
Going cheap will either cost you in the image quality end or the accuracy, speed and build side of things. Sometimes both.

Depends on whether or not you will eventually upgrade to a 20D or 1D/1Ds MkII series at some point.
Any Sandisk standard, Lexar 12x or faster card will work fine on a D30/D60/10D/300D camera. I recommend a 256MB at a minimum for the D30 and always get a pair if possible.
However if you plan to upgrade to 20D or a more recent Canon camera, get a Lexar 40x (or faster) or Sandisk Ultra II/Extreme card. minimum size 1GB. The reason is these cameras can use the faster speed of the card and you will need it. The >=1GB size is needed for the size of RAW files while still giving you enough shots to be avoid frustration on most occasions.
As to lens, the 70-200/2.8L would be your best choice, but I suspect the 75-300 is more in your price bracket to start with and if still a problem there is always the 50/1.8, which is almost always recommened as a must have lens (that or the 50/1.4).
Just my opinion, research and experience,

I got a 2g 80x Lexar the other day. In continuous mode, my new 20d never stops firing.
