IMHO it looks like a badly scanned B&W image from a magazine
I've looked at this several times since you posted and I still can't make-up my mind about it.
Possibly there is not sufficient tonal range in the skin the left side looks a little flat without it, where as on the right side, my eye can follow the line of her cheek bone. The same with the top lip I feel there should be more detail for my eye to pick-up on.
Other than all that its nicely composed - did you crop it in camera or in editing software?

David,
Firstly, thank you for taking the time to comment.
The photo was scanned from a 10x8 that has been kicking around the house for years. It was in a relatively poor condition, and the point in posting was to see if anyone commented on scratches/blemishes etc. because I put in a lot of time to get ot right. I also cropped it from a tight head shot, it's about 30% of the original. I agree regards the lack of tone but I quite like it, the original print is very contrasty and I didn't see a need to change it.
I've seen that you have posted critique on several guys work and I've agreed with everything you've said, I value your opinion so thanks again for your time.
Regards, Martin. :)
