second attempt at capturing the moment of impact of a water drop into a pool of water...
equipment used:
canon 30d canon 85mm f1.8 canon extention tube ef25 canon speedlite 430ex ...and a thin red nylon scarf as a pseudo coloured filter.
settings:
f13 1/250sec iso100

i like #1, though it is slightly out of focus.
#2 looks wild for sure...i would have used a faster shutter...but im no expert..
keep practicing, it seem like you have a good technique setup! :-)

thanks for that....I agree with the shutter speed, though 1/250 with the flash is the fastest I can get, is there another way of cranking up the flash sync speed? guidance here would be greatly appreciated.

Tricky stuff these splash shots. I would challange you to really think through what is happening in terms of flash speed and object speed. The understanding of that will serve you well going forward.....

thanks for that GBRandy!...some great images there...and moving the flash to the opposite sounds like a plan! I will admit that the relationship between the flash/shutter and object is throwing me, so will continue the experiments with slower and even second curtain. any suggestions?

4 x glasses, one with some red coloured water, black card for background, hand held torch used to paint the card from behind glasses and upwards.
