On my Powershot S50 the various photography modes (in white) are coming off the top dial and some have completely disappeared. (On my older S20 they were engraved but these are just printed on the dial.) Of course, as you rotate the dial you can see the mode displayed within the LCD screen but this is sometimes hard to see in bright sunshine and of course it disappears in a few seconds - so you may foreget which mode you are in. This seems pretty chintzy of the manufacturer. Has anyone had a similar experience?

I've heard that Canon will replace the dial for you if you contact them. The mode icons rubbing off was a common problem on the S50. I think its because of the black anodizing on the dial. Some people put clear nail polish on the dial (or cut a piece of clear LCD-saver film to fit) before the icons had a chance to rub off. I've also heard that Canon has remedied the problem with their replacement dials.
