Hi y'all
I'm doing a year long summary slide show for the high school band... their final concert was the other night and i had my new 5d along... can't tell ya how much more i like it than the Xti :)
here are a couple of images - any CC?
This image was taken from the far end of the stage (opposite the young lady doing the solo) and there was a single spotlight on her - i was just amazed at how well this turned out (at least in my opinion) from about 50 feet away. I intentionally cropped it for 16x9 for the slide show i'm doing - thus the wide crop.

i was backstage behind the curtains on the side:

Both cool images, I would just crop them differently, at least for this forum. I know you're doing something else for the slideshow, hence the wide view.

I've got to take some shots of a nightime 'rave' type event, I've also got a 5D, what lens did you use? the pics are really nice, and I know I'm going to struggle like hell.

Annie - sorry i didn't specify the lens... it was the "kit" 24-105L IS (if you can call it a kit - having an L in a kit sounds funny).
It was my second time in a week in the HS auditorium. The first time was for a dance recital and i could only shoot from the audience. I was very frustrated that evening as the background was pure black background... a bunch of girls in bright costumes on black is really tough! :)
I was shooting this concert mostly on manual (which i'm still an amateur at) - chimping like crazy - wishing i could be shooting tethered so i could see the shots on a bigger screen to have more confidence. But bless the 5d and the L, things turned out darn well. On the first shot of the soloist, i left the camera on the manual settings i was using from backstage figuring that the lighting was mostly the same (tho in this case there was only one spot) - it worked out when i checked the preview so i was feeling very lucky.

That first shot is all the encouragement I need to skip over the 40d and head straight for the 5d when the time comes to upgrade. Well done!

Wow, that's quite a compliment (to canon LOL!) - I've never used a 40d so i can't say anything negative about it, but i'm glad i have a 5d now.
I am very very pleased with the results i'm getting with the FF sensor... i had heard that some people said that it really made a difference but i guess i wasn't convinced... tho i am now! Maybe it is just my shooting style, i don't tend to get a lot of time to set up like in a studio or outdoors, so shooting people on the fly was (at least for me) frustrating with the crop sensors as i was never getting to see every hair on someone's eyebrows on portraits... now i am and i'm as happy as a clam.
