So, I'm looking to replace my 15" flat panel. I'm not really into really big monitors so, anything in the 17"-19" is good. Anyways, while we're at it, recommend me a good graphic card too. I'm looking to replace my stock Geforce FX5200xt 128MB. Everything will be running on a Vista Ultimate OP, if that helps.

For a monitor, since you want to stay small, I would recommend the Dell 20" widescreen. Somebody else can confirm this, but I believe the model is the 2009W. It should have an S-IPS panel in it.

As to the graphics card, what are you going to use it for and how much do you want to spend?

SAMSUNG make the best monitors. i would get at least a 22. Just because everything went to wide screen so a 17 inch is like a 15 inch now. so a 22 is like a 19. I dont think you need a nice card just buy the cheapest one they have. Your not trying to play games are you?

I recently switched to a HP w2207h 22" monitor, Bright screen. This monitor can turn to portrait mode and automatically senses when you turn it. It's great to be able to see an entire portrait style shot much larger than on a regular monitor when editing. Just be aware that the driver packaged with some of the monitors was faulty and I had to download an update, even so, I would buy it again. I know it's over the size you were looking at but is worth checking out. It's under $350

99% of all 22" monitors are Tn panels. Not the best for editing photos. 22" is the one size I would recommend completely against for photo editing. My suggestion would be either a 20" or bump up into a 24". Both sizes have models that do not use Tn panels.

I guess, I will go for a widescreen. Possibly a 19" or 20". So, 22" is bad for editing? The main reason for upgrading is for photo editing. And, I'm really not looking into playing games. I do that on a separate console. :)

By the way, that HP HP Pavilion W2207H 22" Widescreen Monitor looks slick!
I really like it, the Dell isn't soo bad either.

If you are only photo editing, then YES, a 22" is not ideal. You really need to go up or down a size. Unless your GPU is dead, the graphics card you already have is plenty good if you are not gaming with the system.

Although pricier than comparable monitors from companies such as Dell, Apple's Cinema Displays are quite nice for photo editing and design related tasks in general. I love my 23".

Out of curiosity why is a 22" monitor not as good as a 20 or 24" for photo editing?

It's not the size, it's the panel: Most (if not all) 22" screens have a TN panel.
Here (http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/other/display/lcd-guide.html)is a(n old) article about different LCD screens.

I'm with Rene, don't get a Tn Panel.

I have both a TN (Samsung 245B) and an I-PS (Samsung 245T) I didn't realize the difference when I bought the 245B. Couldn't get it properly calibrated with Spyder. Did some more research and ended up with the 245T
Much better.

I bought the 245B 'cause of price $400 vs $700 for the T.

Rene's site is where I got the info on the different type.
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/other/display/24inch.html

I don't game and do a fair bit of editing on the T.
Got used to 2 monitors some time ago and won't go back to 1.

PS Had to sneak the 245T into the house, she who must be obeyed was not happy.
