I just thought I'd share and get some opinions/C&C/etc. I love trying to catch those special moments.

Thanks, David

#3. Is he safe or is he out?

He got an inside the park homerun. :)

love the timing on 3, I think 1 & 2 would look better if they were just a hair earlier when the ball was leaving his finger tips.

did you shoot this with the 75-300mm non-IS? These really remind me of the softness that I have to put up with from that lens. (that, or you're just a little OOF)

I used the 70-200 2.8 non-IS. I'm assuming that OOF = out of focus.

Yup, you got it.. they aren't badly out of focus, just a little soft looking.

Trust me, I didn't take offense. What might you suggest to remove the softness?

There isn't any EXIF with the photos, so just a guess that the shutter speed was a touch low, and the slight movement has resulted in the photos not being too sharp.

Perhaps use AV, and set it to the widest aperture available, and/or up the iso a bit if it is a darker day. You want as quick a shutter speed as possible to freeze the action.

David - ditto what Ben said. Open that 2.8 up, it's a great lens wide open. Your depth of field in #1 and #3 were fairly tight, but #2 seemed deeper as with a higher aperture. Even with little slower league speeds, I think you'll be happy with the results staying at 1/1000 shutter speed and above. It'll also help with hand shake. Lastly, try shooting with center point only for AF.

Thank you both for the tips!! He's got another game today at 4 p.m. Eastern, so I'll make some adjustments and hopefully come up with more great pictures!!

It doesn't look like motion blur from too low a shutter speed though, because the ball and bat in all of them are pretty well frozen. They're just soft overall. Even on the ground, where it's generally easier to find the point of focus, it's tough to pick up.

Nice team name :)

Thanks! We're friends of Brandon's. He is from here and sponsors a team every year. He said that he'd sponsor a team, but he wanted Noah (my son) to be on the team. We send him pictures from every game.

I'm trying to figure out the angle in shots #1 and #2. Is this warm ups? Or is he playing first base?

It's tough, but angles without the fence in the background are less distracting.

nice shots.

He plays 3rd base. Both balls were short hoppers that he got and was throwing to first for the out. I was standing about 30 feet behind 1st base.
