I'm looking to buy a graphics tablet for work in PS to edit photos only. Can anyone advise me? The choice is between an Intuos3 and Graphire 3, 6x8 unless there is a better option...

Sorry! This should have been posted in a more general forum.

I really think the $99.00 wacom "Graphire" tablets are a huge bargain!

If you're looking to do photo touchup they will all work great for you. The more expensive models are only realy neccesary if you want to use controls such as pen angle and have far more levels of preasure sensativity. IF you were a painter trying to recreate the control of the brush I'd suggest it.
I use mine for touch up and honestly I never use any of the features of my intus that I wouldn't have with a graphire.

Fair enough. I've read that view expressed elsewhere. What would be better for 'digital painting', where a photo is given a painted look through the use of layers and brushes? Presumably the Graphire would still be ok in conjunction with the opacity feature of PS.

Which size would that be? I can buy the 4x5 for US$78 (incl shipping) and the 6x8 for US$140 local mailorder.

So do i, which is why i bought that one. If i had the money though (and the desk space) i'd love to have a larger one.
That said, i very quickly got use to the smaller tablet even though it felt odd at first (due to it's size compared to my 19 inch moniter).
I say, if you have to question the cost, just get the $100 one.

This topic has come up many times in the past and if I remember correctly the majority of people preferred the smaller 4x5 tablets for the shorter pen strokes.

It's not always a question of money. Ease of use and functionality are relevant. If photo editing is the purpose, I don't wish to waste money on features best suited to other purposes. Size clearly does matter, and it would seem that bigger is not necessarily better. Appreciate your input.

Buy the 99 dollar one at a local store and if you dont like it return and buy the more expensive one.
