Hi all

This is my first portrait using a digital camera
I normaly shoot landscapes etc but thought I would try something different to get me out of the rut that I'm in.
Shot was taken on a Canon A95 with a diffusor to cut out the harsh sun and a white reflector to fill in the shadows from below. Would like to know if all my reading about portrait photography is paying off.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum
Its a wonderful image with nice lighting - all I woud suggest (and I'm no expert on portraits) is perhaps a little cloning work on the highlight on her right cheek.

Other than that, in my eyes you have a very good picture of a lovely girl.

I like it a lot, except for the wall in the background. If you have PS, I'd blur it out.

My only suggestion would be to bring out the right eye in Photoshop It’s a nice portrait.

Very nice portrait of a pretty young lady. If I had to find some way to improve it I would have her face turned just a bit more into the light to brighten hers eyes a little more and possibly subdue the highlight on her cheek. Moving her head to the left a little so she is facing into the frame rather than out of it might be a slight improvement as well. But these are minor comments and largely a matter of taste. Well done!

Thanks for all the helpfull advise. It's great to have a forum like this to bounce ideas off people and get some great feedback. Will post some more pictures when I get the chance to take some. Working nights is killing me.
