[accidentally posted in the share photos forum as well, sorry for double post]

I was again impressed with the noise levels of the 20D at ISO1600.

HERE is a 50% crop (http://www.mts.net/~lftbrain/20d/img_4323.jpg)of picture #4 in my other thread to show how little noise is present at ISO1600. This is converted with Photoshop CS with sharpening, luminence, and colour reduction of 10,10,15 respectively. No noise reduction at all.

This would be a good representation of how clean a 8x10" print would look.

Haha, it was taken with the 135F2L with 1.4x Extender [thru plexiglass, hehe]
189mm, F2.8, ISO1600, 1/1250sec.
Im not sure if arena plexiglass is Canon L glass though ;)

Yikes, are you a canuck hockey fan hiding in Moscow?!

Why not go ISO 800?

1250 is a bit too much, isn't it?

Hehe, since you liked that one, I figure you might want to see another.

189mm, F2.8, ISO1600, 1/1250s (http://www.mts.net/~lftbrain/20d/img_4286.jpg)

You can see a bit of glare from the plexiglass. I was about 6 rows back. They have to start making L plexiglass for these rinks.
I was going to use ISO800, but as you can see, why bother, the ISO1600 is so clean.
Plus, these guys are moving FAST! Even at 1/600s you will still get some blur.
I used Auto White Balance, but moved the White Balance in PS CS Raw to make the image slightly cooler.

and this is 20D right?

I think I'm gonna become a hockey fan :D

BTW: Be ready to be creeped out... if I see a guy with 20D=135*1.4 I'll say "Hi" right there and then :D :D :D

Btw, I am a Leaf fan. I always wanted to see a game at MLG since I was a youngster, and I never got a chance
If I ever get a chance, and the NHL ever starts again, we can go to a Leaf game or something. But from what i hear, they dont allow "pro" gear in NHL rinks.

DocFrankenstein

How did you shot this then?

What's "pro" gear? Black cameras? :D My rebel is silver! :D

DocFrankenstein

And definite yes about the game!

Yeah, you come here and show everyone these amazing photos of your 135 and 1.4 extender. Then we all lust for that lens and that extender. But what everyone is forgetting is what really matters. How cool your camera looks.

Now, based on these sketches alone, i think it's safe to say that the extender clashes.

Now, throw a 200 f/1.8 on that puppy...now that is a sexy setup

PS
If you guys just force yourself to agree with me, then you'll feel better about not having the 135.

*Disclaimer*
All joking aside Drisley, you've really got some tallent. I dont think i've ever seen hockey pics posted on this board that i enjoyed as much as yours.

How come 200/1.8 isn't listen on BH?

That's too funny Timmy! Almost lost bladder control when I saw that.
I've thought that exactly too though. Everybody wants black cameras, but white lenses.
I get the black camera, black lens, but now the darn extender clashes!
Thanks so much for the disclaimer too .
I still haven't captured many good acion shots (with puck, etc), but that will be my next assignment.

Doc, the 200F1.8 is no longer being made. I guess the demand wasn't high enough because it was SOOO expensive. But it is supposed to be awesome if you can find one used.

I was able to shoot because this isn't a pro game. But, the arena "etiquette" pdf says "no professional camera equipment allowed". Like you, I wondered what is meant by "professional". So I called the arena once, and they couldnt really tell me, so in the end they recommended I leave the camera at home. Yeah right!

But somebody here told me that they arent allowed into Ottawa Senators games with their Canon DSLR.
One of the many reasons could be that a DSLR with a lens and long hood really obstructs the view of people beside you, especially if you are close to the ice.

Ok, Ok, here is another 50% image.
I get a laugh every time I look at this one

I wasn't allowed to take my 10D into a Senators game and we (12 of us) had a seat in the Molson box. What a way to see a game, a private bar and washroom. They allowed my wife to take in her Canon S30 in though.
Great shots drisley. Were they taken in TV or Manual mode? I must look into one of those 135f2 lenses. What do they go for in Canada?

Drisley a winner of a shot, wow thru glass, it must have been clean.

Dale, I was initially trying AV mode, as I like to shoot wide open. But I found that the exposure was all over the place. So I found a timing I liked (1/1250s) and locked it in M mode.
Phili, thanks, yes the glass was clean. But, you can see some glare in the first two pictures above, and some dirt on the last one.

Well my only hockey related story is that I sat next to Mike Modano at dinner tonight :)

Well yes it was a DRebel, but I was able to bring my camera into a Flyer's game without a problem, I just called before the game and they said as long as I don't have a big obtursive lens on it, I wouldn't have a problem. So I used my 75-300 from the top row.

Yes, I think that is the problem. Large lenses can really block the view of those beside you.
