I shot this yesterday shooting my friends band, the band pics will be out soon, but I shot this while the opening band was playing cause my ADD gets in the middle of me, and relaxing haha. C&C and re-edits very welcome!

The idea is nice. Technically there's some things wrong however.

First and foremost: It's way too blurred. Camera shake caused by the 0,5s shutterspeed. Get the camera off ISO 400! Use ISO 1600. (You still would have needed a faster aperture and / or IS or monopod then)

(Let's hope you did go higher for the show)

Secondly: I don't like the framing. There's some kind of 'stand' in the right, the laptop is distracting IMO, as are the lights in the top of the frame. Then there is the bright line bottom right. Cropping closer would help I think. Taking a step to the right before taking the image, and aim a bit more left would have been better though IMO.

There's a bit flare as well. Use a hood, don't use a cheap filter.

Yea good idea - certainly worth trying a second time at least.

I was using a hood and a tiffen haze1. Thanks for the input however.
I think I might try it again, it was really one of those things where I was looking for a place to stabalize myself and this shot kind of just created itself.

The stand is a tripod with a vid camera on it. I might try and reshoot or do some PP

Rene- wouldn't going to iso 1600 in this situation make the picture incredibley noisey? I very rarely shoot in low light situations, so I've got a bit of learning to do. thanks.

I find shots from the 20d at iso 1600 to be perfectly useable, especialy if noise reduction is applied in postprocessing. Very few (essentialy 0 ) people that arent photographers will notice noise as long as its not completely out of hand.

good to know, I might go play around tonight with it... I've taken 0 classes on photography and just picked it up as a hobby to go alongside my video adiction, but it's slowly started taking over, I think I need to start edumicating myself on it.

Loose the Tiffen. Seriously.

Straight from the Filter FAQ (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=368177): Click (http://www.kenandchristine.com/gallery/1054387_ucZqa/1).
If you want a filter, get a decent one, like a B+W MRC.

If exposed well, ISO 1600 is perfectly usable.
Also, noise is (partly) removable in PP, and I prefer noise to camera shake ;)

The majority of images you'll see in the PA section, will be at ISO 1600 or higher.

flare and camera shake kills this for me too.

Yeah, same here... I use ISO1600 nearly all the time, sometimes even ISO3200...that's on my 30D...

Besides, I also shoot hundreds if not over 1000 shots from an entire show and sort the very best ones out...

You'll need a faster lens to get consistent results in PA... Good Luck.

see I personally like the lens flare in this situation, I think it adds to the feel of a show enviornment. Thanks for the input, doing concerts and such is just something I do on the side, I like my outside work a lot better. Next concert I'm bumpin up the ISO though, atleast giving it a shot.
