View Full Version : LCD protective film?

Hi guys,
I see some smear on the LCD screen from the leather case I am using. I intend to clean the LCD and then put on protective film. Here are the questions:
1) Is it ok to clean the LCD screen with rubbing alcohol?
2) I plan to use Hoodman Hoodskin HSK-4. Does anybody have experience with those films? They must be cut to size.
Thanks for any advice.

Honestly I have used invisable shield and all the high priced covers and I had better luck with my wife's P&S when I used the ones I bought at Wallmart. Another thing you can do is go to a Kinko's Fed Ex shop and they sell the stuff there and it seems to be pretty cheap. If you have one local you may go in there and at least ask. Hope you find something that will work for you.

I use this anti-glare LCD protector from Boxwave;

Also, see page 251 in the User Guide on cleaning the LCD, lens, and camera body.

Hey denncald that looks pretty good. Is it pretty durable and does it stick well and not slide around. Sounds like we may have found something here as the site has them for half off on a web special. Thanks.

I use really old ones bought for my PDA. I only change if the film is really damaged. But the 40D, I don't put any film. The LCD's are pretty durable.

These are the most durable ones I've ever used. I use them on my PDA and Canon A620. I write on them on the PDA, and have not seen any indentations over the past 2 or 3 years. I've used one on my G9 for the past month, and it is in and out of the camera bag often. My fingers even grip the LCD in the process, and no finger prints. I really like it.

I use the Hoodman HoodSkins They work OK. I had a bit of a problem getting them to go on without bubbles. Pretty cheap. You get 12 for $11. I do not know yet how long they last.

Same here. Dulls the IQ a bit, but it's the histogram we should be looking at anyway ;)

go to www.daproducts.com (http://www.daproducts.com) and order their custom lcd protectors. Their scratch resistant are 1/16th inch thick and can take a lot of abuse. I use them on my G9 and 40D. $6.00 a piece (US). Hope that helps.:D

for me, I've been using screen patronus protectors for a couple of years now on cameras and PDAs. I've found them extremely durable (haven't scratched on yet!) and very clear. In fact, to me they seem to make the screen more legible than without. Highly recommended.

yeah No probs with alcohol I think screen protector kits provide an alcholol impregnated cloth anyway (probably with a disclaimer LOL).
ignore any plonkers round here who tell you there is no need for an LCD protector on Canon screens because after listening to a few and removing my protector I scratched it within a week! Saying that it is relatively cheap and easy to replace the screen anyway.

I only put the PDA film on the LCD because I rub my face often, and I wear foundation. But I think a paper towel with the eye glasses cleaner sprayed on the paper towel first wiping the LCD lightly is okay. The LCD doesn't need protection, really. It's just a cover for the LCD. That can be replaced if scratched. Like the sensor has a protective cover. I just found that out a month ago.

So did I!
olly_k: You write that it is easy to replace the LCD cover anyway. Can we do that ourselves or must the camera be sent for repair? I imagine that it would cost 100 $ just to get a camera through the door of a repair shop and that the camera would be gone for a good while.
