When I got my A40 I just went into a generic mall sized electronics good store and found one the right size with enough extra space in a front pocket for a spare set of batteries and couple of CF cards.
When it was a stolen I replaced it with an A80, and did the same thing, just picked one of the shelf thats just big enough for the camera and a few extras, and has a nice wide strap.
Its badged as a "tamrac" digital series.
Whether its a real tamrac or not I have no idea, but the tag on the side says its a 5692 which matchs this model http://www.tamrac.com/5692.htm from thier website, and its pretty high quality, with room for a USB cable, spare batts, and two extra CF cards, as well as my custom ND filter attachment.
And it only cost about the equivilant of US$25

Lowepro Z10. It's a perfect fit for the camera and there's room in the pocket for 4 batteries and a CF card.
There's also a shoulder strap and a belt loop.

My wife has the small Canon bag for the A95. It holds the camera and an extra flash card.
