Hi, I have just got a Canon 20D and I am having problems downloading images using the USB cable. I have installed the software/drivers and when I connect the 20D to the computer with the USB cable it tells me that the Camera is busy and to turn off the LCD display if it is on (which it isnt). The strange thing is that I can download images using Windows XP Camera and Scanner Wizard so I am supposing the driver is working fine.

I know I can download from the CF card but want to also get the USB working, has anyone come across this or has any ideas.

I appreciate your time in viewing this post :)

I have the same problem and Canon has no explanation. So what I do is use a card reader.( I also have a Roadstore Cf card to cd burner as well. )

I do not use Canon's software I use Photshop Cs or Breezebrowser. If you buy Breezebrowser buy downloader pro, it is the fastest way of putting files from your CF card to your computer.

Thanks Phili1 :) I think I have found my problem - ME - I went to the Canon site and looked what software should come with the 20D and ZoomBrowser wasnt mentioned so it is obviously not compatible. I use ZoomBrowser with the 300D and just 'assumed' it would work. It appears that if I use the bundled software I should use the EOS file viewer to download via USB and it does work for me but not very convientiently so I will probably look for something else now.

Thanks again.

Terry, having just bought my 20D (one week) and being a G1 user, I assumed Zoombrowser would work. Now that you are an expert, compared to me, I'm interested to know what you have discovered and what software you have opted for.

IainHi Ian, I'm no expert and just a few weeks down the road from where you are :)

I havnt really looked into this problem yet as I am now able to download via USB, procrastinating I suppose :) - however I now use Windows XP 'Scanner and Camera Wizard' to download my images as I find it more convienient than EOS File Viewer, this is OK for JPEG files but use EOS File Viewer for RAW images.

If you come up with anything better can you add a post here as it may be a little while before I get around to testing any other method - thanks :)

The 20D is a newer camera which requires new a driver. Your old software for the G1 will not have the proper driver to work the 20D. And, if you shoot raw, it will also not be able to recognize the raw format of the 20D. The best thing to do is to install the new software that came with the 20D. After installing the software from the CD that came with the 20D, you should then download the newer version of EVU and DPP as well as any driver updates that are available from the Canon site.

hi,iwould forget downloading from the camera and buy a card reader,as far as software goes i dont like any of the canon software.i use ps se for my 20d but you need to download
the cr2 converter to read the 20d raw files.if using a 300d it has it built in.

I just saw an ad in the newspaper for a USB card reader: $5 US.
