Just thought I would share with you some pictures of my first skateboarding competition. I want to get some feedback on what you guys thought about these sets.

No but thank the time zones. Will take time for people to reply.
These a great but lack much interest. There is far too much going on. I would like to see some tighter crops, since these kids are not catching any air, I would get in closer. This applies to all apart from #2 and #8.
Nice attempt.

wow... now they are some sharp photos right there.... I really like the BW shots... I'm guessing these were shot with your 17-40L , I have one as well.... the sharpness is unsurpassed... I love it

They are quite sharp, get lower to make them look like they got more air!

Thanks guys for the comment. I really wanted to go upfront with most of those shots but the owner told us not to get in the way of the skaters =/ I really need to invest in a zoom lens. The 17-40 is a great lens just not enough zoom.

you have to show them your work and do what you can to have them let you get into the thick of the action... I'm not a big fan of skate shots taken with a zoom, you need to get in there and get dirty with that 17-40L. my 2 cents

Maybe there is a practice before the competition that you could go to? Get up close then, since it is practice maybe they will look the same as if it were the competition.

#1 - have some patience as sometimes it takes a few days to get responses.
#2 - follow the rules of posting; the limit is 8 and you've broken that.
#3 - not much difference in snap shots and these. You need to offer something that the others can't get, something they come up and go "how did you...." or "how can I....." With these the answer is easy as to how...basically, own a camera. Try different angles and such to catch peoples attention and it will work better.

I personally think these are beyond snapshots!?! You've got some nice composition going on in some of these, especially #6 i really like that one. ;)

A lot of butt-shots, #8 and #11 are best but #11 would be SO much better if the comp was tighter and if it followed the rule of thirds. Maybe go for a tighter crop? Like this:
