I just finished shooting a season of soccer for my son, and have taken a large number of images that I want to share with the parents. In the past, I have just printed them off and given them away.....
Gasp!
anyway, now I am going to post them and let them buy em if they want em. Make a little extra coin to pay for all that equipment.
But here's my question.
Can I set up a password protected gallery in smugmug? I want to email the parents a link with a password so that they know that their kids pictures aren't all over the place on the internet.
Thanks

Yes, you can PW protect a gallery and then send them the PW. You can also show a "HINT" incase they forget the password. It works nicely for all the PW I forget!

Like Kenski said....set up the gallery in "Customize Gallery" settings for the password. Also, since you did not mention what level of account you have, you won't be able to make any money off the sales of prints in smuggy if you don't have the pro account. I don't think the power user account has that option, but I know the standard one does not as that is what I have.

I have a Power User account and there are no options for selling prints for a profit. The Pro account is the one the OP wants, and considering the features I think $149.95/y is pretty reasonable.
After switching to Power User and customizing my site I could never go back to the standard account.

Not only can you pw protect a Smugmug gallery, you can make it private too. Unless someone has that actual link they won't be able to get to the gallery.

I got the pro account. Set up a password -- will look into the private link. Marked em up 20%. See where it heads. Thanks for the help!

I do this all the time, just set up private galleries and send the links, no PW's required. They can send the link to family and friends.
However...SM's print prices are very low...I mark them up at least 500% and the client still gets a good deal and will never complain. I sold over 1200 prints from my last hockey tournament with no complaints on pricing. Consider a 5x7 is only 50 cents to have printed...selling it for 60 cents is not going to get you any return. Sell it for $6.00!!
Another thing you will enjoy about SM there is no time limit or storage limit so I just leave the galleries up forever, I still make the occasional sale from tournaments I shot in 2007.

Thats good to know. Most of the parents are friends,, and this is the church school team, so I don't want to get greedy. On the other hand, it is understood by all that the profits go back to the church (my choice) so I can afford to raise the prices a little.
Have you been happy with their quality?

Once they are used to getting them for free it's hard to get them to start paying for them.
