I mostly do this for my own enjoyment and the reason I keep shooting is to improve my skills and get better at what I do. I find it personally satisfying and today I photographed a couple and the biggest question I had was where can I improve and what did I do well today.
What is your primary reason behind whatever you shoot?

To kill time.
Also to make art. Oh yeah, I like good gear and shopping for it as well.

I do it because I enjoy it as a hobby.
Researching and buying gear is fun for me, as is using it out in the field. I like nature and landscapes a lot and it is my primary interest, also goes into my photography where landscapes and nature is my primary interest.
I do not care much for taking "people" pictures, just does not do it for me for some reason most of the time, but nature is just too much fun. I love to travel, and it goes well together with photography.
I am learning everyday, but love it and think I am pretty decent and have an eye for it at times ;)

I also enjoy it as a hobby- if money comes along the way that would be great, but I don't consider myself good enough yet to make any kind of business out of it yet.
I have to admit, sometimes I think I'm in it for the wrong reason- I LOVE buying and selling gear! I suppose when it comes down to buying L lenses that may come to an end, as I've just moved from mid-range lenses to "good" lenses so there's only one more step to the top.
Frankly I'm getting bored of nature/animal pictures, when I get a chance to shoot people I just love it. Problem is I'm kind of a shy person, so I'm scared people might get annoyed at me taking their picture. But Iv'e got a wedding coming up, and super excited about that!
I think my interest in landscape photography might be greater if I had an ultra wide lens, but I don't want to buy another lens and end up not using it. I know with my current zooms I use them alot.

I do it because its fun and have always been interested in photography. I like to shoot a little of everything but events and people are my favorite. I like catching the moment that we might miss because it happens too fast. And the equipment and process of acquiring gear is fun too.

Reason behind my photography? ... Pure enjoyment!
I find going off somewhere with my camera bag & equipment a way to relax and enjoy whatever and where ever I am shooting. It gets me out and as i like to say, I enjoy taking mini photography vacations ... those run from an hour or two, a day trip or a week long trek to somewhere I've never been.
It's when someone asks me to shoot something for them (wedding, family potrait, pets) that I tense up, get nervous and feel pressure but I know the results will be ok in the end because of all that relaxed experience I have. :)
Oh, and it gets me out of yard work too! :)

Primarily a landscape shooter...landscapes don't show up late, they don't complain, they're never a no-show, and they look good at all times of the year. And I enjoy it...it's my release from the daily drudgery. There's also the added benefit of the tax shelter. ;)

Like most moms, I started with photography because I learned early on that the pics I took of my family were more natural than studio shots. I like capturing personalities. Lately I've become interested in street photography. If only I could get over feeling so conspicuous.
I'd like to shoot birds (not literally!) but I don't have the patience for it. I'm in awe of some of the bird photographers on POTN.
