I would like to make an animated .gif out of a layered PS document. This is easy in Elements, but I can't seem to find the animate function. Anyone help?

Imageready is program for that. I don't think PS has function for this. At least I never saw it, but to be honest I didn't even look for it much :)

Once you have have all the animation layers in PS, just click on File >> "Edit in ImageReady" to pass the whole lot to ImageReady so that you can animate it and create the GIF file.

Yup, you gotta use ImageReady.

I guess I didn't state this quite right. I am in Image Ready and I still can't figure out how to get the animation going. Tried Help and still at a loss. What am I missing?

It's easy.
Steps:
1) You have your layered file in Photoshop, you have to click on the tools bar (at the bottom) to change to Imageready or go to EDIT in imageready.
2) In IMAGEREADY you have the next windows open: ANIMATION, LAYERS AND TOOLS. At least.
3) In the ANIMATION WINDOWS, usually is at the bottom of the screen, and it is a large one, you have to click on the OPTIONS MENU for that window (an little arrow at the right if you use MAC or if you use PC, something, I dont know jeje).
4) Go down that MENU, and click on MAKE FRAMES FROM LAYERS.
5) Automatically Imageready will start to make all the animation Frames for you, its important that you have your layers in order from the begining.
6) Once, you see in the ANIMATION WINDOW, all the frames, you can adjust the time each one will appear.
7) Then you have to SAVE OPTIMIZED AS, and now you have a GIF animation you can show us later.

Hope this helps you.
Regards.
