This photo is of a neighbour's cat called Spencer - he calls in most days to scrounge food - although his clearly overweight!

It is one of the first photos taken with my recently purchased 300d/Digital Rebel. - and is heavily cropped from a full length shot to give a portrait effect.

Any comments please?

Its nice, I like the lighting on the cat. Even though I know that cats often lie like that I feel that if its paw had been filling the bottom left corner it might have balanced the pic better.
The thinkg which I don't care for is the harshness of the background that you have dropped in - it doesn't relate to the softness of the cats fur - in other words the line is too hard and abrupt.

Ditto Merkats comments and I would also say that the lighting does not at all flatter the kitty's eyes. Second I cant help but notice - and be annoyed by - kitty's out of focus nose.

Kittys are fun to shoot, but they are hard. For the thousands of clicks I have, I can think of only a half dozen I am really satisfied with.

Thanks to the members who had a look at the photo and offered some useful thoughts.

I used the integral flash for this shot, which was a bit hurried as animals are unpredictable as
'models'!

What has impressed me, using the 18-55mm kit lens, is the extent to which images can be 'blown up' without the pixels showing - 'depixelating' ?

Try cloning out the annoying bit of collar that is sticking out.
