I am new to canon digital. I have a rebel, shot this one with a 75-300 f/4-5.6. Be easy, it would only let me upload 2 pics.

The first is a nice portrait, its just a shame that the ears are cropped it also needs a little post-processing to bring out the detail of the eye.
The second does nothing for me at all! It has no subject!

have to downsize the file inorder to post it on here. I looks much better before I have to do that.
The second pic, Looks much better. The subject of it is the chickens I guess, but before I downsize it, It has all sorts of colors in the photo. It really doesnt show up in the small pic. Like I said I am new.
Thanks to all that gave me a reply.

John,
...don't take it personally. We've all been told once or twice that an image we saw something in doesn't do anything for others :) Its a learning process. I can see that there might be some nice colors in the second photo, but there is way too much gray tree area at the top, the horizon line is very distracting and the trees/shrubs in the foreground are also very distracting. The subject does not seem to be the focus of the image. If the colors are your interest in this photo, I'd also play with bumping up the saturation and maybe play with levels for more accurate colors ....just my thoughts on it, but its these kinds of suggestions from other people that help us shoot better images next time :)
The horse is nice, but I would also try to bring out the detail in the eye.
