France Vacation , Need suggession

All,

I thinking of planning a 10-12 days vacation in France. And expect to get great opportunities for photographs.
I will be traveling with my 1.5 yr old toddler.
I will be traveling from Tokyo.

What are the absolutely great places I can visit/ or I should not miss?

Which places seems to be convenient for travel with toddler? We will travel by train.
How about staying in Apartment hotel? Is that safe, cheaP , convenient?

Any other suggestions are more than welcome.

When exactly are you going and what region are you going to?

I'm off to france for 2 weeks at the end of June staying in the Vaucluse region of Provence (just under an hour away from Avignon). It is a fantastic rural area and at the end of June and through much of July the area is in its famous lavender bloom. It is also good for cherries in May which are very tasty!
