I just bought a 430EX and have been playing around with a Master Slave setup with my 500DG Super. The 500DG Super is able to pretty consistenly control the 430 EX so I think I have that part figured out. But I am trying to figure out how to set ratios on the Sigma (Master). I have read the manual, but it is about as clear as mud. Can someone explain how to set the ratios, or provide a link to a better explenation than the manual? Thanks in advance.

The following thread might be of help, hopefully:

The discussion centers around the Canon EX flash units but should also be applicable to the Sigma 500 DG Super, too. Just replace all references to Groups A, B and C with Groups 1, 2 and 3, respectively. Canon's Group A = SIgma's Group 1, B = 2, and C = 3.
BTW, for a detailed procedure for setting the ratio on the flash, see the section titled "Slave ID, Wireless ETTL Autoflash With Flash Ratio (Two Slave Units)" in page 26 of the 500 DG Super manual.

So if I read the other post correctly, if I set the ratio for the 12 setting on the flash, I can use the 500 DG (master) for fill and the 430 as the key light. Is that correct?

Yes, if by "12", you mean "1:2" for the ratio.

Actually I meant 12 as in the same as AB on the Canon as a Master
