I have an Archos (www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=333996&is=REG). It is a fantastic little unit and the battery life is long. You can also buy a dc charger for it that you plug into a cigarrette to charge the battery for approx $25 US.

This has been discussed many times and there is what I have a 40GB FlashTrax Drive made by SmartDisk, the Vosonic Xs drive, the Archos drive aforementioned and a few others. You could also look into the ones that burn CDs of whatever you have on ur CF.

Hi
As Canuk points out, this has been discussed many times before. Nonetheless, it seems to be an area where there are lots of developments and there are new or improved products appearing regularly.
I have the Vosonic X's Drive and was reasonably happy with it whilst on vacation. When using it extensively at a race track though, it ran out of battery power on me :-( It does not have a replaceable battery. The other nuisance is that you have no way of checking if the copy worked or not.
The newest offering from Epson, the P2000 is now very high in my shopping list.

Here are two links:

...never mind the below... Get The Epson P2000. I missed the part about it playing music as well.

Don't forget the well tested Delkin Picture Pad, they have 60GB models, you can view your files and in some cases your pictures (They will do jpeg, TIF, CRW, but not CR2 yet that I know of), I like being able to copy files back to my CF card if needed.

It is not the latest technology, but it works fairly well and is something to consider, although I would be looking at some of the music players these days as some of them will work the same. They just usually don't have as large a capacity.

I have been using my 30GB one for about 3 years now with no problems other then battery life and I found getting the AA battery pack accessory solved that problem.
What I would want if different is a device I could use the BP511 batteries and for it to play both wma and mp3 files. a bigger screen would be nice also.

Just something else to look at. Start with the Delkin and then look elsewhere for comparison. The Epson P2000 looked pretty good to me overall and except for the capacity, it definately beats the Delkin.

I bought an Ipod with a belkin card reader. Works fine but you cannot see the pictures. My son uses an Archos but it cannot handle RAW or large files. Anyhow, I hardly use it for file storage as the cost of cf cards has dropped so much I bought more cards. I still prefer a laptop as I can process and view the files

I've just bought the Epson and it really is superb. I'm glad I waited for the P2000 rather than buying the P1000 last year. The screen is wonderful, the software on it isn't at all bad. Reads Canon RAW from my 10D no problem etc. etc. Recommended. :D

Thing I did read about is that you can plug in a USB external CD burner and burn directly from the P2000. That'll be handy if I go travelling next year and want to send CDs back home as I go.
