The Beach Boys played a free show last night (an anonymous donor hired them to play at the town's annual weekend festival). I would have been better off at f/4-8 and a higher ISO as it seemed plenty bright, but I had my kids with me and only shot for a minute or so. Had I known I would have been able to get into the VIP area and up to the front row I would have have brought my 35L and 24-105 too. These shots were taken with an eight year old on my shoulders!

Would be nice to have a wide shot or two, but these are excellent. Having a child to weigh you down and hold you firmly in place clearly helped.

Absolutely, and thanks for the kind words. I didn't expect to be going to the concert, let alone ending up in the front row. I happened to have the camera in the car with just that lens on it. I was stopped from taking pictures after 3 songs, yet a dozen other non-professionals were using their SLRs, even with zooms and flashes. I was told my lens looked too "professional".

I was asked by PM how sharp that lens is at 100% crop - answer: very sharp!

Very nice shots. It amazes me that they look just the same as when I saw them 20 years ago. They're as timeless as Dick Clarke.
