Hi,

Does anyone out there have any thoughts on the Canon Pixima series printers? I was looking at the 5000 model vs the 4000 model - it seems to offer double the resolution for a modest bump in price...

Has anyone used these and are they any good? If not, suggestions for alternatives would be welcome!

I picked up a Pixma 8500 a week ago and am totally overwhelmed with the output from it. Full bleed 8.5 x 11's are increadable with excellent colour and detail. Extremely fast and very quiet. The 8500 uses 8 colours as compared to 6 in the other Pixma models.

I haven't used the latest Pixma models.. but I am completely sold on Canon printers now.

After half a lifetime of HP and Epsons breaking down and clogging... I've been happiest with the Canons.

You young pups... When I was your age I had to carry broken HP printers to the repair center.

5 miles!

Uphill, both ways!

In the snow!

Half a life time equals 3 score and ten x 1/2 or 35 years
Must admit I was not aware that HP and Epson manufactured either tablets or chisels!

I was asuming I'd be dead by the end of the weekend...

Actually HP is an old company... long before I was born.

I was recently considering either an Epson R800 or Pixma 8500. I eventually decided on the Epson, but ended up returning it. I just couldn't get the colors right using all the correct paper and profiles etc. I then bought an 8500 and from the very first print, it was perfect. Highly recommended.

Ok, for real, I am waiting on the 13x19 Pixma printer. It may be some time though. I hope they come out with one!

Im not rolling with the big boys, hehe, but I just got a Pixma 4000 for Xmas and let me tell you its the greatest thing for me since my last lens. I installed it, printed a pic from photoshop and it came out so crisp and colorful, and borderless printing makes me beam. The dual trays are a gem, no more switching out paper.

The best thing about Canon printers??? CHEAP INK!!! You have no idea how long my HP sat there without color because one tri-color cartridge ran almost 50 bucks. I'd always find something else to spend that 50 on and print my photos at work. At 10 dollars a COLOR for my 4000, simply cant be beat. And these tanks seem to last a long time before you need to replace them.

Highly recommend Canon Pixma printers.

what about print life vs the epson 2200 or r800 with pigmented ink vs dye based.

You can soak a print of premium luster photo paper with a print on it for a week in water and you will lose the gleem of the photograph, but not the photograph. Honest, try it. However, how long does a dye based print last off of a Pixma printer. After using the 2200, I am not brave enough to go elsewhere and try new printers.

the ip4000 is 4 times more than the 8500.4 times more what? Everything I read says the pixma 85000 is the top of the line in this series.
