Not sure if this is flare or ghosting or both, but how can I stop it?
I'm using a Hoya UV filter.
Any ideas?
PS the colorful ride shot was not shot through glass.
Thanks

K, thanks.
Is there anything I can keep on there for protection that won't do that???

Clean & expensive glass flares less.

If your going to use it for protection take it off when your in situations like that.

I've never had my UV filters off, and have never experienced that type of image/reflection. But I only use the expensive German made filters - B+W and Rodenstock.
There have been a few threads here about the quality of various UV filters, and the lesser quality ones sometimes have "issues" like flare, ghosts, etc.
I'm not knowledgeable about the the Hoya UV filter, so can't comment on it.

Ok, thanks all.
I'm using a new lens.... Nikon =O I know I know but the D300 was too hard to pass.
So I wonder if it's the lens I'm using, I've never seen this before on my Tamron.

It's not the lens, it's the filter. Trust me on this, I've seen it before very often.

Ok thanks. I was worried my new lens had some issues.
Feel better now

This tends to happen with cheaper filters. I have a Jessops (read: cheap) UV filter for my 50mm. It doesn't affect sharpness but it ghosts like crazy in certain situations. Nothing you can do about it other than using a better quality UV filter or taking it off all together. My other filters are all Hoya Pro 1 filters and they don't exhibit any problems.

Best thing to do is just take it off in situations like this. Put it back on when your done.
