***THIS IS A JOKE - DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME***

A friend me sent me this today. Should we make this a sticky???

> How to clean your 1DMKII CMOS sensor:
>
> * Set your camera on "Sensor Clean" mode,
> so that the mirror will lock up (you don't
> want to damage your mirror!). Make sure
> batteries are fully charged.
>
> * Carefully place your DSLR with its lens on
> (Doesn't have to be an L-lens, any lens will
> do, even Quantarays), flat on its back on a
> table surface (i.e, lens pointing up)
>
> * Remove the lens and make sure the mirror
> is in the locked-up position
>
> * Slowly pour inside 1/2 cup of warm (90F/32C)
> water, a tbsp of sodium bicarbonate, and a
> tsp of distilled vinegar. (OBS.: If you're cleaning
> a 1Ds, add a pinch of salt. Never use commercial
> solutions containing ammonia, they are too strong!)
>
> * Replace the lens to the camera mount.
>
> * Gently shake the camera for 20-30 seconds
> (until all dust specks are disloged!)
>
> * Remove the lens, pour out the liquid
> inside. Replace with 1/2 cup of distilled
> water, with 2 drops of "Eclipse" rinse
> solution. Remount lens, and shake camera
> again to rinse out residual cleaning solution.
>
> * Remove lens, pour out rinse liquid.
>
> * Get hair dryer, set to low heat setting

LOL

I have heard that applying a light coating of clear nail varnish will prevent dust from contacting the sensor in future. Is this true? :p

Red nail varnish if that's all you have; black if you're feeling Gothic!

They're wrong about quantrays though... you need an weather sealed lens like 17-40 L :D

some retard is going to try this you know, because they skipped the disclaimer. Some "retard" shouldn't own a 1dMk2.

I'll tell my mate who has a Nikon D2H. I bet it will work on his camera too...

Half-intelligent photographers probably should know better than to use the word "retard" in such a derogatory way.

Many years ago a local dirt bike magazine ran an article on "V8 veggie juice" and how it would give huge increases in horsepower when you add it to your fuel

They fooled SO many readers, even though they had the word 'SATIRE' printed in large type on the title page
Hell,we were all too young to know what satire ment! lol

Then there is the old photographic classic, the dreaded 'photonic impaction'
have you ever got your lenses de-photonized?!
If not you will be getting more and more flare over the years from not cleaning ouit those photon's jamed in the glass matrix

 The instructions clearly say that they're for a "1D MKII" not a 20D  :p

NO, ... No, you guys are not following close to the story. Due to global warming issue, everything is going to GREEN and the chemical stuff and water recipe are out dated. The new recipe is actually taking the 1DMKII to the salon where they have the little fishy cleaner. Remove any lenses, lock up the mirror, then just drop the camera into the tank to let the fishy do the work for you. Remember to bring something to read such as 1DMKII manual or something, cause the little fishy will take sometime to find all spots and eat them all. After this process the camera will appear to be very shiny touchy like new. The best part is that this new technology is going to work for all cameras, period. Green means good!

If you are a pet-lover, the easiest thing to do is to let your dog or cat lick the sensor clean. The animal spit leaves a dust-resistant residue, which is an added advantage. If your pet is resistant, add a small piece of raw liver to the sensor to kind of get things going. (This is somewhat better than the fish tank solution because the entire camera does not need to be immersed.)

I have my MK II filter sitting in a drawer - it can't get dusty there surely...
