I spent yesterday wandering around LazyPhotographer's turf. The birds weren't cooperating too well, though, so I didn't get very many good shots. Here are a few of the better mediocre ones:

A roadrunner:

Canon EOS 20D, Canon EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L @ 400mm, 1/400s, f/7.1, ISO 100

A stilt:

Canon EOS 20D, Canon EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L @ 400mm, 1/400s, f/7.1, ISO 100

An airborne seagull:

Canon EOS 20D, Canon EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L @ 400mm, 1/500s, f/8, ISO 100

Another flying seagull:

Canon EOS 20D, Canon EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L @ 400mm, 1/500s, f/8, ISO 100

An egret in flight:

Canon EOS 20D, Canon EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L @ 400mm, 1/640s, f/9, ISO 100

Another bird in flight. I have no idea what kind of bird this is:

I'm not sure if you have Kildeers in CA, but that's kind of what the last one looks like.

I really like the Egret against the blue, blue sky. That's a pretty shot.

Looks good, Lonnie. You made the best of what there was.

Excellent shots! I would love to see a stilt! :)

The "mystery" bird is a plover :) Very cute and fast in the air!

Great shots... for a rookie! ;-)

The Stilt is really pretty.... come back in the spring when they're breeding and see the babies - they're soooo cute.

The last one is a Killdeer - 2 rings and red eyes are Killdeer, 1 ring and dark eyes are Plovers.

Thanks for the comments. It looks like KartGirlsMom and Lazy are right. I did a google image search and found a plover that looks a lot like the last bird, but it only has one ring. Here's another shot of my "mystery bird" clearly showing two. Looks like it's a killdeer.

They look pretty darn good to me Lonnie, That 4th shot. the 2nd seagull shot looks like he's getting ready to dive bomb someone the way the wings are folded back. :)

Nice work Lonnie. I'm glad you caught the Roadrunner, it's one of my favorite Birds.

I like to watch the Kildeers on our farm. They follow the tractors and gobble up the bugs that have been disturbed. They are so funny when you try to sneak up on them with their "I'm injured" ploy.
