Hi,
I just got a 1DS. I want to get another battery. Any suggestions regarding using a third party battery or should I just get Canon's battery?
thanks

I would get the canon battery.
I have two of the other off brand ones and their quality is spotty and not consistent.

Canon or the alternative that B&H sells. I also bought a couple of the cheap alts and they are just that. Cheap. The fit sucks and I would not trust it out in the weather, but they do work.
I bought them just for grins and 'cause they were really inexpensive. I have yet to have charged them. I have three of the Canon's and they last so long, I'd be hard pressed to use all three for almost anything short of a 5-day African Safari.

Have a look at this thread (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=50550&page=1). I got bats from for $12 http://sterlingtek.com , and I can't fault them.

Tim: Ron is talking about a 1Ds/1-series camera. The prosumer cams use entirely different batteries.

I concur with RFM... although non canon BP511's are great.. the generic "el cheapo" NP-e3 batts for the 1D cameras are real peices of junk :(
In this case I'd stick with Canon.
