Hi,

I lost my CD with Canon software when we moved to a new apartment. Please tell me where I can download File Viewer and RAW converter. I also mailed Canon support to send me a new copy but in the meantime I still need to work :)

Please help me and provide a link or website ( not Canon sites, they only got updates and I can't use them without a setup version ) where I can download the setup files directly.

I own a D60 EOS camera.

Thanks in advance.

Obtaining the software from any other source than Canon would be ilegal. Whilst you are waiting for Canon to send you a new copy of the software I suggest you try something like Irfanview. http://www.irfanview.com/ It's free and can process and convert Canon RAW files.

Thanks for your quick reply Cadwell. I didn't know it's illegal getting this software from a third party site. Canon offers it for free with no registration required, for that reason I find it odd they don't give you the possibility to download the usable version from their official site or mirrors directly.

I wanted FileViewer because I don't know any other software that offers thumbnail browsing and one click file conversion for RAW files, do you ?

Regards.

Not off hand, although Irfanview will do batch conversion which is useful.

Canon may choose to distribute FVU and EVU and DPP to owners of Canon cameras, but they remain their products and they hold the copyright of said products. To distribute it without their permission would be a breach of copyright and ilegal. If Canon do not choose to make it available for download from their sites, then no-one else has the right to do so. The only legal way to get the software is on a CD from Canon.

The software is not "free", it is "bundled" with a farily expensive piece of kit, namely your camera. In much the same way that you get a copy of Windows bundled with a new PC. You do not have the right to make copies of that Windows distribution and share it with other people.

There is another option that should work. Canon's website has a link to it's download library:
http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=DownloadIndexAct , go to the 'software applications and updates' section and you can download the appropriate software.

Gaza,

Already tried that, you can only download updates. You need to have the working version installed for the updates to work, otherwise you just get an error message. So, no luck there. Some time ago I found a Chinese/Japanese site which had the software in a instalable form, but it's not there anymore, it would've been helpful now :(

If there's no way I can get the software faster, I'll just have to wait for the Canon CD to arrive ( God knows when ). If by any chance you know a site where I can get the two pieces of software I would apreciate ( even if it's ilegal as Cadwell pointed out ). Sorry Cad :)

Regards.
