Recently.. i got myself a powershot a75 and the softwares that were included in the box is only for windows 98 and above. (ArcSoft & EFS utilities).
As i only hv win 95... i'm not able to install these softwares into my computer.
Is there any possible way that i can download software into my computer so that i can upload files from my flash card into my computer or upgrade is only my solution. What about using a card reader?
Any ideas contributed is much appreciated... cheers

Wow, windows 95, I feel old :(
What speed is your PC? I have to ask since your still running windows 95.
If its an old PC from the mid-late 90s you may find it far to slow to manage the file sizes that came off the A75.
I tried up loading some pics of my A80 onto my parents old Pentium II the other day, it was painfully slow, and would take up to a minute to display a full photo.
If you do have a newer PC, but an interest in running old opertating systems, then Im sure you will find a solution.
Have you tried installing the software on the CD?
While zoombrowser and some of the extras like photostich might no work, the basic Twain32 driver might.
And have a look at canon.com as they should have drivers avliable for download that will work with win95.

.Thanks Moppie... i guess i'm out of luck as i'm using pII 450mhz, so..soooooooo sloooooooow. Anyway, installing software on CD? The software were on CD that were included in the box. Unless you meant somthing else ie burning your own sofware... which i do not hv a burner :(
i was wondering if i get the flash card to the photo lab and get it either on print or cd and then scan it.. using the scanner software provided.... do u think that might wok??
Cheers

You can get the photos put onto a CD by the photo lab, thats deffinitly one way of doing it.
On the CD as well as the canon software should be some drivers.
Hopefully one of them will work with win95.
Otherwise canon has a list of alternative drivers on thier website.
And it might be time to upgrade your PC :)
With something faster you will also be able to manipulate your photos in a program such as photoshop :)

If thats the case there is something wrong. My laptop which I use with my "portable studio" is the same PII 450. It works well, and loading pics even from the 10D come up pretty quick.
You should be able to find Win 98 II easily and cheaply.

I guess if i really wanted to go into the digital world & explore further, it is time to upgrade as computers n electronics hv drop so much in $$$$..
Currently, i only do som net surfin n d/l using my really o system:mrgreen:
Most d/l now require @ least win 98... which limits my chances to d/l files using win 95:mrgreen:

is the same PII 450.
My parents comp is a Celeron 333 with 64mb of ram :D
But go edit an image in photoshop on your 450, then do it on a 2.6ghz or better machine, you will soon find a good reason to upgrade.

If its New Zealand $$ and it comes with a monitor and good video card, as well as CD Burner, then I would say its a good deal.
If its US $$ then its twice whats it worth. :)

Since Windows 95 doesn't support USB devices, you're pretty much out of luck trying to connect it to a current Canon digital camera, or reasonably-available card readers. The one exception would be if you have a laptop. The ArcSoft, which is really just your image editor, may be usable, but there's no real purpose to the Canon software without a camera attached to the computer. Your computer should, however, support Win98 just fine. If you're running slow it's probably because your system's colected so much cruft over the past what, 6-7 years. A clean install of any operating system should help that (not an in-place upgrade; start over from scratch).
I don't think a PIII 733 is really worth your while. If you look around, you'll be able to find new P4s running around 3 GHz in the $4-600 range. They'll also have larger hard drives and the optical drive will be at least a CD burner, if not a DVD burner.

Hmmm, for $499US you can get from Dell;
P4 2.8Ghz
512MB RAM (free upgrade from 256MB)
Win XP Home edition
40GB 7200RPM HD
17" CRT Monitor
48x CD Drive
Free (crappy) printer
It's more than twice the cost of the P3-700, but it's much more of a machine, especially for doing any kind of photo work.
