What kind of software do you have? PC? MAC? There are lots of software programs you could use. Let me know what you're running and I'll try to give you some more info.

One of the easiet tools to use is Microsoft Front Page. You could also use Adobe Dreamweaver. Dreamweaver is a little more complicated, but you can download a free trial version at the adobe website and try it out for 30 days. Yahoo Sitebuilder is very easy to use. But I believe it only works if Yahoo is providing the hosting services. If you have specific questions you can email me.

It'll be hard to create a site form scratch without knowing any HTML or CSS. As mentioned you can get a trial of Dreamweaver and give it a shot, but that won't help you DESIGN the page. Photoshop and/or Fireworks is best for that. If it comes down to it, you can hire a designer to do the web page for you ;)

I'm a former tech guru and can write some fairly complex html, dhtml, flash etc, if you still need somebody.

I'm a web designer/developer by career. What are you looking for in a website?

One important question that hasn't been asked - What is the purpose of this web page? Selling services? Products? You say a basic opening page - if you're selling services this will be the first thing potential clients see. You wantit to look professional and be esay to navigate.

Can't you download (via ftp) the original files from the webserver and put them on the new one? As long as it's just html involved and no databases, etc it should work.
Moving the domain name records will be a different story.
